TCP/IP driver unable to initialize due to error in using port RC 67

Troubleshooting


Problem

The Tivoli Storage Manager Server will not start due to the TCP/IP components being unable to initialize.

Symptom

The Tivoli Storage Manager Server will not start.

Review the activity log for the following similar messages:

    ANR0993I Server initialization complete.
    ANR0916I TIVOLI STORAGE MANAGER distributed by Tivoli is now ready for use. ANR8208W TCP/IP driver unable to initialize due to error in using port 1500, reason code 67. ANR8191W HTTP driver unable to initialize due to error in using port 1580, reason code 67. ANR8208W TCP/IP driver unable to initialize due to error in using port 1542, reason code 67. ANR8224W TCP/IP Administrative driver was unable to initialize due to error in using port 1543, reason code 67.

Cause

The ports mentioned in the error messages show that the Tivoli Storage Manager Server was unable to use the ports. Return code 67 means the port is already in use.

Resolving The Problem

Often a reboot resolves the issue by clearing out the sockets.

Check following:

    1. Make sure these ports are not already in use.
    Run: netstat -a
    (or netstat -a |grep PortNum)
    Look for any active service using the port number (e.g., 1500)

    2. Check the Tivoli Storage Manager server option file for the port definition and make any changes, if necessary, to the port number being used. Make sure the port is not already in use.
    Alternatively, ensure that no other application is using the port number specified in the server options file with the PORT option.

    3. Reboot the physical machine
