TBFINFO - Modifying your profile

Question & Answer

Question

How do I modify my InfoMan profile NOTE: This TidBit file is ONLY intended to be viewed in DCF because it makes use of screenshots

Answer

After logging on to InfoMan you should see the PRIMARY OPTIONS MENU as follows:

Note the BLG10014I message, this shows you what privilege class you have logged on with.

If you see the BLG10003W message instead (shown below) that means your user ID has not been added to any privilege class, you need to contact your InfoMan administrator and ask them to add your user ID to a valid privilege class:

To add your privilege class to your profile, enter the PROFILE command as shown below:

When you press Enter, you will be taken to the following panel:

Select option 1 and modify your profile as follows (you will add you valid privilege class to Class):

For information about each field please refer to Modifying Profile Values in the "Information Management for z/OS User’s Guide Version 7.1" guide SC31-8756

After making the changes, press PF3 to go back to the following panel:

Keep hitting PF3 until you return to the InfoMan Primary Options Menu, then type Q and press Enter. This will Quit out of InfoMan and save your changes.

NOTE: Failure to do this could cause your profile changes to be lost if your TSO session times out, or is cancelled. By issuing the Quit command, you write the profile changes to the InfoMan ISPF profile data set.

Select option 7 if you want to set your name, department, telephone, time zone and date format, the only required field on this panel is the Database name, this must be set to 5.

For more information on the Database field, refer to the NAME parameter in BLGCLUST Macro in the "Information Management for z/OS Planning and Installation Guide and Reference Version 7.1" GC31-8751

Press PF3 twice and you will go back to the PRIMARY OPTIONS MENU, not the BLG16511I message informing you the update will be saved when the current session ends. By "current session ends" it means you need to enter the QUIT or Q command to exit InfoMan causing the changes to be written to your profile. If your session times out (S522) or is cancelled (S222) the changes you made to your profile will NOT be saved and you will have to make the changes again.

RULE: Whenever you talk someone through making InfoMan profile changes, make sure they Quit out of InfoMan to make sure the changes are written to the profile data set.
