Troubleshooting
Problem
After these specific ALTER TABLE actions, the statistics for the table will be invalidated and will need to be collected again: -Alter table drop column -Alter table type change or change in datatype length -Alter column caused blank truncation All other ALTER TABLE actions will leave the existing statistics intact for the table.
Symptom
Optimizer access plans for queries may be influenced negatively due to lack of statistics for the table if the query is recompiled after the ALTER TABLE action and new statistics are not collected.
