    Certain components that are not installed by the core InfoSphere Foundation Tools installation program can be installed by using separate installation programs and instructions.

  6. Creating a complete backup of your Version 8.1.2 installations

    Create a complete backup of your InfoSphere Information Server installations.

Single computer and distributed installations

Certain steps in the preparation and installation procedures apply only when you are installing Version 8.1 Fix Pack 1 on a computer that hosts a particular tier. Each time you complete the preparation or installation procedures, perform only the steps that apply to the tiers that are installed on the computer you are preparing or installing on.

For example, if the tiers are each installed on separate Windows® computers, install first on the computer that hosts the services tier, completing only the steps that apply to the services tier. Then repeat the installation on the computer that hosts the engine tier, completing only the steps that apply to the engine tier. Finally, repeat the installation on the computer that hosts the client tier, completing only the steps that apply to the client tier.

For example, if your services tier and engine tier are installed on the same computer, complete the installation steps that apply to the services tier and the engine tier. If two or more tiers are on the same computer, the Update Installer installation automatically installs them in the appropriate order.

Some steps in the preparation and installation procedures apply only to certain operating systems. Complete these steps only on computers with the specified operating system.

Reviewing the system prerequisites

Your systems must meet the following prerequisites:
  • You must have IBM InfoSphere Information Server, Version 8.1 installed.
  • You must have each InfoSphere Foundation Tools component, Version 8.1 or 8.1.1, already installed for each InfoSphere Foundation Tools component, Version 8.1.2, that you are installing.
    • InfoSphere Information Analyzer, Version 8.1 or 8.1.1

The instructions in this document use the default installation locations. Your path varies if you installed InfoSphere Information Server in a different location.

The following directories are the default InfoSphere Information Server installation locations by operating system.
  • Microsoft® Windows: C:\IBM\InformationServer
  • Linux®, UNIX®: /opt/IBM/InformationServer

Preparing to install core InfoSphere Foundation Tools components

Before installing InfoSphere Foundation Tools core components, prepare all computers in your installation as described in the following procedure:
  1. Review the troubleshooting documents for InfoSphere Foundation Tools components, Version 8.1.2, for any installation-related issues at www.ibm.com/support/search.wss?q=ift812relnotes.
  2. (All tiers) Download the InfoSphere Foundation Tools components, Version 8.1.2 by following the download instructions at www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=14&uid=swg24025166. Put the downloaded package into a temporary directory.
  3. (All tiers) Download the latest version of the Update Installer from www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=14&uid=swg24020897 and put it in a temporary directory.
    Note: You must install InfoSphere Foundation Tools components, Version 8.1.2 with the latest version of the Update Installer. Do not use previous versions of the Update Installer.
    To ensure that you are using the latest version of the Update Installer:
    1. At the command prompt, type the following command:
      • Windows: C:\IBM\InformationServer\Updates\bin\VersionInfo.bat
      • Linux, UNIX: /opt/IBM/InformationServer/Updates/bin/VersionInfo.sh
      For example, the following Update Installer version information is displayed for Version 8.1.0.176:
      IBM Information Server Update Installer Version 8.1.0.176
    2. Ensure that the version number returned by the VersionInfo script is the same version as the latest Update Installer that is available at http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=14&uid=swg24020897.

      On IBM AIX®, Microsoft Windows, and Red Hat Linux, the VersionInfo script might not exist. The VersionInfo script is created automatically after you use Update Installer Version 8.1.0.160 or later.

      After you download the latest version of the Update Installer, install it by replacing the updater.jar file in the following directory:
      • Windows: C:\IBM\InformationServer\Updates\bin
      • Linux, UNIX: /opt/IBM/InformationServer/Updates/bin
  4. (All tiers) Create a complete backup of your InfoSphere Information Server installations, including the metadata repository database, the IBM InfoSphere QualityStage match designer database (if installed), and the InfoSphere Information Analyzer analysis database (if installed).

    Important: You must do a complete backup before you install InfoSphere Foundation Tools components, Version 8.1.2. These components cannot be uninstalled. To remove Version 8.1.2 of these components, you restore to the complete backup that you create with this step, or uninstall and reinstall your InfoSphere Information Server, Version 8.1, installation.

    Important: Stopping and restarting the server as part of the backup process is an important step in verifying that your installation is prepared to be upgraded. For detailed backup and restore instructions, go to http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iisinfsv/v8r1/topic/com.ibm.swg.im.iis.found.admin.common.doc/topics/t_admin_backup_restore_super.html. Follow the backup procedures carefully to ensure that you back up all required files. Certain critical files are located in directories other than the InfoSphere Information Server installation directories.

  5. (All tiers) Verify that the computer upon which you are installing InfoSphere Foundation Tools components has sufficient available disk space. The amount of available disk space required depends on the tiers and suite components that are installed on the computer. For an installation where all tiers and suite components are installed on the same computer, 1.5 GB of available disk space is required, with 250 MB of this available disk space being available in the temporary directory.
  6. (Services tier) Verify the versions of IBM WebSphere® Application Server and Java™ SDK that your computer is using. If your version of IBM WebSphere Application Server is a more recent version than Version 6.0.2.27 or your Java SDK version is more recent than 1.4.2 SR10, you must install Java SDK 1.4.2 SR13 and iFix PM04495.
  7. (All tiers) Disable any firewall and any antivirus software. Some antivirus software blocks the installation or displays confirmation prompts that interfere with the installation and might cause it to fail.

    Important: Re-enable the firewall and the antivirus software after the installation is complete.

  8. Verify that the following administrator accounts are valid and active:
    Table 1. Administrator accounts by tier
    Tier Administrator accounts
    Services tier If your installation is set up to use an external user registry such as the operating system registry or Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), then verify the following accounts:
    • The InfoSphere Information Server administrator account (default user name is isadmin).
    • The WebSphere Application Server administrator account (default user name is wasadmin).
    Metadata repository tier Verify the metadata repository database owner account (default user name is xmeta).

    Verify the database administrator account.

    Verify each account as follows:
    1. Verify that the user name and password are valid and that the account is not locked. To verify this information, log in to the computer, WebSphere Application Server, or database server with the user name and password.
    2. Verify that the characters in the user name and password are permitted for the Update Installer. It is possible that characters in the user name and password are valid in the underlying authentication store, but are not valid for the Update Installer. For information about permitted characters, see http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iisinfsv/v8r1/topic/com.ibm.swg.im.iis.productization.iisinfsv.install.doc/topics/wsisinst_pln_user_reg.html.
      Note: Verify the database administrator account only when you are installing InfoSphere Business Glossary and the metadata repository uses DB2®.
  9. If your installation includes InfoSphere Business Glossary and your metadata repository does not use DB2, you must grant additional privileges to the metadata repository schema owner. Run the following SQL commands on the metadata repository database:
    grant create trigger to schema_name;
    grant create procedure to schema_name;
    grant administer database trigger to schema_name;
    where schema_name is the name of the schema. Typically the name of the schema is xmeta.
    Note: This step is automatically performed by the Update Installer when installing the services tier if the metadata repository uses DB2.
