The IBM® Tivoli® Storage Manager Server
Fix Pack 6.2.5.000 is available. The following sections provide
information about system requirements, installation, and other resources
for the server.
Description
With IBM Tivoli Storage Manager, you
can protect the data in your organization from failures and other
errors by storing backup, archive, space management, and bare-metal
restore data, as well as compliance and disaster-recovery data, in
a hierarchy of auxiliary storage.
For a list of APARs that were
resolved in Fix Pack 6.2.5.000, see APAR fixes associated with Tivoli Storage Manager Version 6.2 fix pack
levels.
Installing Tivoli Storage Manager
Before
you upgrade a Version 6 server, verify that DB2® is correctly registered in the deployment
engine that is used to install the server and its components. In addition,
back up the deployment engine before and after upgrading the server
or any of its components. For more information and steps to complete
these tasks, see
Technote 1469933.
Note: The installation
of this fix pack might require additional temporary disk space in
the installation directory of the server. The amount of additional
disk space could be as much as the amount that is required for installing
a new DB2 database as part of
a Tivoli Storage Manager
installation. The Tivoli Storage
Manager installation wizard displays the amount of space that is required
for installing the fix pack and the available amount. If the required
amount of space is greater than the available amount, the installation
stops. If the installation stops, add the required disk space to the
file system and restart the installation.
For installation
instructions, see Installing a Tivoli Storage
Manager server fix pack.
Updates, limitations, and known problems
Updates,
limitations, and known problems are documented in the form of technotes
in the Support knowledge base at http://www.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/. As problems
are discovered and resolved, IBM Software
Support updates the knowledge base. By searching the knowledge base,
you can quickly find workarounds or solutions to problems.
Updates
At
the time of publication, the following updates were available:
- Preventing device driver conflicts on Oracle Solaris systems
- A new device utility, rmstdev, is available to detect and delete
device special files on Oracle Solaris systems. For details and usage
information, see Techdoc 7027317.
- Using wizards to upgrade the server in a Windows clustered environment
- You can use wizards to upgrade the server to V6.2.5.000 or later
in a Windows clustered environment:
- If you are upgrading from V5.5 to V6.2.5.000 or later, use the
upgrade wizard to load the new database and configure the system.
For instructions, see Techdoc 7036442.
- If you are upgrading from V6.1 to V6.2.5.000 or later, use the
configuration wizard to configure the clustered environment. For instructions,
see Techdoc7036443.
- Tivoli Storage Manager Console
being deprecated
The
Tivoli Storage Manager Management
Console (
Tivoli Storage Manager Console),
which is a Microsoft Management
Console (MMC) snap-in, is being deprecated. The preferred way to configure
and upgrade the server on Microsoft Windows systems is to use the
Tivoli Storage Manager wizards:
The
Tivoli Storage Manager Console
can no longer be started from the
Start menu.
You can still start the
Tivoli Storage Manager Console
manually by issuing the following command:
Tivoli_Storage_Manager_install_path\console\tsmnet64.msc
where
Tivoli_Storage_Manager_install_path is
the location where the
Tivoli Storage Manager server is
installed.
- Specifying a threshold for free space on a file system
- You can use the DBDIAGPATHFSTHRESHOLD option
to specify the threshold for free space on the file system or disk
that contains the db2diag.log file. For more
information, see Techdoc 7024853.
- Using IBM LTO-6 tape drives
and media
- With Tivoli Storage Manager,
you can now use IBM LTO Ultrium Generation
6 tape drives and media. New recording formats are available for the LTO device type. Logical block protection
can be enabled for IBM LTO-5
and LTO-6 to validate data. If you use logical block protection, Tivoli Storage Manager inserts
a cyclic redundancy check value at the end of each logical block of
data to be written to tape. In this way, you can identify errors that
occur while data is being written to tape and while data is transferred
from the tape drive to Tivoli Storage Manager through
the storage area network. For details, see Techdoc 1568018.
