Q&A Session for Accelerate with IBM Storage: IBM DS8900F R9 - What's New! Session Number: 1456574028 Date: 2022-6-2 Starting time: 10:22 ________________________________________________________________ Q: so unless we buy the premium tier we have no remote code load upgrade availability? Priority: N/A Lisa Martinez (IBM) - 11:21 A: We now offer the abiity for you to load code which Craig will cover shortly ________________________________________________________________ Q: Of 24 DASD subsystems we have, 9 of them show Degraded right now for Data collector in Storage Insights Pro. Doesn't seem very "Premium" to me Priority: N/A Brian Sherman (External) - 11:20 A: Might be due to upgrade of Insights. Have the Data Collector's been refreshed on your side? ________________________________________________________________ Q: Expert Care has not been available in all countries for FlashSystem, is there a list of countries it's not available? Priority: N/A Brian Sherman (External) - 11:25 A: Correct and yes, the announcement letter has the supported countries. ________________________________________________________________ Q: Can Insight basic give the actual Random/Sequential ratio on DS8K, or need to have Pro for that. Priority: N/A Brian Sherman (External) - 11:30 A: I believe so, yes. Typically it's a matter of how long we keep the data available between Insights and Pro but there are changes occuring on what gets displayed in the versions. ________________________________________________________________ Q: I dont know exactly what Automated Ticket Mgmt mean with Adv Expert Care.....Do you need Advanced or Premium Expert care in order for the DS8k call home when there is a serviceable alert? Priority: N/A Brian Sherman (External) - 11:31 A: With Insights, you can create, track and monitor tickets via Insights and that's what we mean. ________________________________________________________________ Q: I just selected all of them and did a restart data collection. Nothing is obviously happening when I select all 9 at the same time and do restart data collection, it throws out a non-existent system name in the "tasks". Doing one at a time appears to work or at least says it is doing it for a real subsystem. If they break with code upgrade, their code upgrade process should automatically restart these things. Priority: N/A Brian Sherman (External) - 11:28 A: I thought we did a notification when we did an update so you'd know when to refresh the data collectors. We don't want to be mucking around and restarting something in your environment! Send me a note or contact Mark and he can and we'll get one of the Insights SWAT team to give you a call. ________________________________________________________________ Q: In order for my DS8980F to call home for serviceable events, do we need Advanced or premium Expert care? Not sure what is meant by Automated Ticket mgmt. Priority: N/A Lisa Martinez (IBM) - 11:33 A: Brian answered in previous question.. thanks for asking ________________________________________________________________ Q: Do i need Adv Expert care to have my DS8k call home and create a case for a serviceable event? Priority: N/A Shu Mookerjee (External) - 11:40 A: Thank you for the question. It has been answered by the presenter. ________________________________________________________________ Q: Does PPRC still use the SSID of the array. Other words do you need unique SSID in each array for MM links and GM links for CSM multi-target with hyperswap? Priority: N/A Brian Sherman (External) - 11:32 A: No changes in this area with R9.3. ________________________________________________________________ Q: can we select particular release/code level Priority: N/A Lisa Martinez (IBM) - 11:31 A: yes, when you look for the download, it will display the available code levels to install ________________________________________________________________ Q: does the download process has auto-resume in case of disruptions? Priority: N/A Shu Mookerjee (External) - 11:39 A: Thank you for the question. It has been answered by the presenter. ________________________________________________________________ Q: is there a link to download this presentation? Priority: N/A Lisa Martinez (IBM) - 11:35 A: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/6585416 Brian Sherman (External) - 11:35 A: Deck is here https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/6585416 ________________________________________________________________ Q: We're running SKLM 3. Is there a cost difference to move to the latest GKLM? Priority: N/A Lisa Martinez (IBM) - 11:34 A: I think that's a question for your BP or IBM rep ________________________________________________________________ Q: can we select to not update csm with the code load? Priority: N/A Lisa Martinez (IBM) - 11:36 A: I have not seen an option to not update CSM on the HMC in the customer code load ________________________________________________________________ Q: is the "Distribute" phase deprecated now? Priority: N/A Lisa Martinez (IBM) - 11:36 A: it happens as part of the activation in the customer code load ________________________________________________________________ Q: Do many customers load their own codes, or use IBM RCL teams? Priority: N/A Lisa Martinez (IBM) - 11:39 A: this is a new function just available so will need RCL to get to 9.3 and then decide if you will use RCL or customer code load ________________________________________________________________ Q: will this be available for hmc transformations Priority: N/A Lisa Martinez (IBM) - 11:39 A: does not include for 9.3 but future will be supported ________________________________________________________________ Q: I believe the heath check button should also trigger any CE actions to take place , if needed any as as result of health check outcome. Priority: N/A Brian Sherman (External) - 11:39 A: Correct ________________________________________________________________ Q: Majority of clients today are using Remote Code Load. This has been in place for a couple of years Priority: N/A Lisa Martinez (IBM) - 11:40 A: thanks ________________________________________________________________ Q: if my DS8980 is currently under maintenance for 4 years (arranged prior to today's announcement), are we entitled to base, adv or premium care? Priority: N/A Brian Sherman (External) - 11:43 A: your existing DS8980's continue with the maint you have today. The change to Expert Care is only on newly acquired systems. Craig Gordon (External) - 11:44 A: you have what I will describe as a hybrid of these. You have a Technical Advocate (TA), and you have Storage Insights (not Pro). You have up to 2 RCLs per year. And the other line items in Advanced are also included with your warranty machine. ________________________________________________________________ Q: Is there any generally available link for customers/partners for performance needs/constraints(sizing), related to high transactional applications, high IOPs/throughput. And Oracle Database etc. Priority: N/A Brian Sherman (External) - 11:45 A: Our Business Partners and/or IBMers use what we call the Storage Modeller (StorM) tool for sizing. Reach out to your local support and we'll help you ________________________________________________________________ Q: we're basically talking about a code upgrade on the HAs not new HA features or bandwidth accelerators? Priority: N/A Craig Gordon (External) - 11:53 A: Correct ________________________________________________________________ Q: Thanks Brian. Yes, Modeller gives the simulation with the input modeling parameters. But any Best Practices doc or redbook for DS8K, like we have for XIV/A9K etc readily available for DB/SQL BPs. Like redp5520. Priority: N/A Brian Sherman (External) - 11:56 A: In the days gone by when we had TechU, our team did a performance best practices session and we do have this Redbook https://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg248501.html ________________________________________________________________ sudhir BISHT (External)(sudhir.bisht@tcs.com) - 12:00 Q: Muchas Gracias Brian. Not sure why I was not able to find it easily :-( Priority: N/A Brian Sherman (External) - 12:01 A: Most welcome. Hopefully gives you what you wanted! Always an art finding what we want ________________________________________________________________ Q: How about create AIX volume? Priority: N/A Brian Sherman (External) - 12:02 A: Lisa will show an example in a couple slides ________________________________________________________________ Q: Any improvement on resizing volumes (from mod9 to mod54, for example) that are in a mirroring relationship? Today, those volumes need to be removed from GDPS, which is very painful. Priority: N/A Craig Gordon (External) - 12:05 A: Remains the same at this time, sorry. ________________________________________________________________
