This Fix Pack document provides information about IDM Desktop and Web Services 4.0.3 Fix Pack 8. This IDM Fix Pack includes following fixes: See the List of fixes.

Installation and upgrade

System requirements

 

Go through IBM FileNet IDM 4.0.3 and Fix Pack system requirements at https://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=3349&uid=swg27020881.

Important: The hardware and software products NOT mentioned on the Web page are NOT supported with IBM FileNet products. IDM supports the other/third party software till their end-of-support date. The software and hardware support limitations are noted in the release notes.

Prerequisites

 

Before proceeding with the installation process, view the online version of the readme, if there is any recent update.

 

A non-admin user on Windows 7, Vista and Windows 8.1 needs to enable "Create Global Objects" to login to IS 4.1.2 onwards.

To enable "Create Global Objects" follow these steps, logging on as an administrator:

1. Go to Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy > Local Policies > User Right Assignment.
2. Double-click Create Global Object.
3. In Local Security Setting tab, click Add User or Group and then select the non-admin user.
4. Click Apply and then OK.

For Windows 8.1, User Access Controll (UAC) settings needs to be changed as in Windows 7 to enable Create Global Object privilege for Windows 8.1, see the technote, and do the setting as in the technote.

Install IDM Desktop Fix Pack

1.       Stop all applications running on the workstation.

2.       Double-click the downloaded Fix Pack file IDMDesktop403-008.exe.

3.       Restart the workstation.

The exe is single executable for English and s-English IDM Desktop 4.0.3 Fix Pack 8.

Refer release notes for Registry fix on Windows 7 and issue on Windows 8.1 32-bit: NTVDM or 16-bit support issue.

Install IDM Web Services Fix Pack

1.       Stop all applications running on the Web server.

2.       Double-click the downloaded Fix Pack file IDMWebSerivces403-008.exe.

Note: The installer GUI might take time to appear after double-clicking IDMWebSerivces403-008.exe.

The setup program upgrades the current configuration and all Web client download packages.

3.       Restart the Web server.

The exe is single executable for English and non-English IDM Web Services 4.0.3 Fix Pack 8.

Install IDM Web Services client (ActiveX Client) Fix Pack

 

This section explains on Web Services client Fix Packs upgrade or installation.

Upgrading latest Web thin client

 

If a Fix Pack contains Web client software changes, the client can be upgraded by downloading and installing the latest thin client from the download option on the home page.

1.   Install the latest IBM FileNet Web Services Fix Pack.

2. From a Web client, access a Web server that is equipped with the latest Fix Pack.

3. Click the Utilities button on the Utilities panel.

4. Select the currently installed Web client package, or if this is a new installation, select any package.

5. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click Continue with download.

6. Follow the instructions to complete the download.

7. Locate and run the downloaded file to install the Web client.

8. Restart the machine.

Then the latest thin client will be upgraded.

Silent install from the Web server

  1. Install the latest IBM FileNet Web Services Fix Pack. This upgrades the Web client packages in the ..\idm\web\idmws\redist\download directory.
  2. See the topic "Silent Install and Upgrade" in the IBM FileNet Web Services Administrator's Help for information on using SMS to perform "push" installs of Web client software.

Install from the Web Client machine

It is not necessary to have previously installed a Web client package.

1.       From a Web client, access a Web server that is equipped with the latest Fix Pack.

2.       Click the Utilities button on the Utilities panel.

3.       Select the currently installed Web client package, or if this is a new installation, select any package.

4.       Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click Continue with download.

5.       Follow the instructions to complete the download.

6.       Locate and run the downloaded file to install the Web client.

7.    Restart the machine.

Configuration

Content Services configuration: ODBC connection being created using odbcad32.exe. To create an ODBC connection on 64-bit machine using 32-bit odbcad32.exe, do the following steps:

1. Open C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe.
2. Create an ODBC connection in this application.
3. Log in to IDM.

Uninstalling this Fix Pack

 

The installed Fix Pack cannot be uninstalled.

Limitations, problems and workarounds

 

There is a known issue with Smart card prompt that is seen when opening Microsoft Word. See the detail and other know issues and workarounds in Release notes at http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=3346&uid=swg27009996
