System requirements for MetaBrokers and bridges, Versions 8.1 and 8.1.2

To import or export metadata by using a bridge, you must install IBM InfoSphere MetaBrokers and bridges on a Microsoft Windows computer that is on the client or engine tier of your IBM InfoSphere Information Server installation.

You can install only one version of MetaBrokers and bridges on any single computer. If you have a previous version of MetaBrokers and bridges installed, you must use Microsoft Windows Add or Remove Programs to uninstall it before you install the new version. Separately uninstall each of the following components if it appears in the Add or Remove Programs list:

• Bridges
• Categories and Terms MetaBroker
• DBM File MetaBroker
• IBM InfoSphere Data Architect MetaBroker
• IBM Rational Data Architect MetaBroker
• IBM WebSphere Metadata Server MetaBroker
• ODBC 3.0 MetaBroker
• User Information MetaBroker

To use MetaBrokers and bridges on the client tier, one or more of the following tools must be installed on the computer where you install the MetaBrokers and bridges:

• IBM InfoSphere Information Server console with IBM InfoSphere Information Analyzer or IBM InfoSphere Information Services Director installed
• IBM InfoSphere DataStage and QualityStage Administrator client
• IBM InfoSphere DataStage and QualityStage Designer client
• IBM InfoSphere DataStage and QualityStage Director client

To use MetaBrokers and bridges on the engine tier, one or more of the following product modules must be installed on the computer where you install the MetaBrokers and bridges:

• IBM InfoSphere DataStage
• IBM InfoSphere QualityStage
• IBM InfoSphere Information Analyzer
• IBM InfoSphere Information Services Director

To import metadata by using IBM InfoSphere DataStage and QualityStage Designer, you must install the MetaBrokers and bridges on the same computer as the Designer client.

To import metadata by using IBM InfoSphere Data Architect, you must install the MetaBrokers and bridges on the same computer as InfoSphere Data Architect.

To import metadata by using IBM Rational Data Architect, you must install the MetaBrokers and bridges on the same computer as Rational Data Architect.

Before you import or export, you must install Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML) 4.0 Service Pack 2 on the same computer where you installed MetaBrokers and bridges. You can download MSXML 4.0 from www.microsoft.com.

To avoid resource problems with large imports, you can increase the memory allocated to MetaBrokers and bridges.

Additional software requirements for specific bridges

Before using the following bridges, you must install the required software on the same computer that the bridge is installed on:

BusinessObjects Designer (File) 5.x to 11.50

Install the appropriate version from 5.x through 11.50 of BusinessObjects Designer.

BusinessObjects Designer (Repository) 5.x to 11.x

Install the appropriate version from 5.x through 11.x of BusinessObjects Designer.

BusinessObjects Desktop Intelligence 5.x to 11.x

Install the appropriate version from 5.x through 11.x of BusinessObjects Reporter or Desktop Intelligence.

BusinessObjects Repository 11.x

Install BusinessObjects Designer and BusinessObjects Reporter.

BusinessObjects Web Intelligence 11.x

Install the BusinessObjects Web Intelligence API.

CA AllFusion ERwin 4.x Data Modeler

To import ER1 files, install CA AllFusion ERwin version 4.x Data Modeler.
To import XML files, save the files in AllFusion Repository format.

CA AllFusion ERwin 7.x Data Modeler

To import ERWIN files, install CA AllFusion ERwin version 7.x Data Modeler.
To import XML files, save the files in AllFusion Repository format.

IBM InfoSphere Data Architect

Install IBM InfoSphere Data Architect version 7.5.1 through 7.5.2.1.
During installation of InfoSphere Data Architect, you must select the Metadata Server Integration feature to be able to access the MetaBroker.

IBM Rational Data Architect

Install IBM Rational Data Architect version 7.0.0.0 through 7.0.0.4, or version 6 Fix Pack 1.
During installation of Rational Data Architect, you must select the Metadata Server Integration feature to be able to access the MetaBroker.

Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services 7.0 to 9.0 (2005)

Install the appropriate API from version 7.0 through 2005 of the Decision Support Objects (DSO) for Microsoft SQLServer Analysis Services.

MicroStrategy 7.0 to 8.1

Install the appropriate version from 7.0 through 8.1 of MicroStrategy. For imports, in the Additional Parameters section of the Parameter Selection window, you must select Import dimensional objects.

Oracle Warehouse Builder 10g to 11g

Install the appropriate version from 10g through 11g of Oracle Warehouse Builder.
