Solution
|
---|
This information applies for Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition, and Web Edition. System administrators are being warned that if they want to upgrade any dual-processor or multi-processor systems to Windows Server 2003, they should check first to determine whether they will be affected by the upgrade.
To check a system before upgrading
To check a server before upgrading, the administrator can run Winmsd to determine if the current system configuration is affected by this issue.
To check a system during the upgrade
- Run Setup to start Windows Server 2003 installation.
- On the first Setup screen, click Check system compatibility, and then click Check my system automatically to start the compatibility check. If a server is affected, Setup indicates that the dual-processor or multi-processor server will run with only one processor if the upgrade is installed.
To check a system that has already been upgraded
- Click Start -> Run and type winmsd to display System Information.
- In the Item field, if the entry next to Processor appears as "Processor x86 Family 6 and model 1 or model 3", then this server is only running with one processor. The administrator can choose to either run the system with one processor or reinstall the previous operating system to run with more than one processor.
