Problem

With I/O Card replacement part number (FRU) 39R7258 installed, system may initially hang at IBM splash screen, code C7 in upper right corner of display.

Symptom
With I/O Card replacement part number (FRU) 39R7258 installed, system may initially hang at IBM splash screen, code C7 in upper right corner of display.

Affected configuration
The system may be any of the following IBM eServers:
  • IBM eServer xSeries 460, Type 8872, any model
  • IBM eServer xSeries MXE 460, Type 8874, any model

The system is configured with the following ServeRAID option(s):

  • ServeRAID-8i Controller, Option part number 13N2227, CRU 13N2233.

The system is configured with the following RSA option(s):

  • IBM Remote Supervisor SlimLine Adapter II (RSA II SL), Option part number 73P9341, FRU 73P9324

Note: The x460, MXE 460 comes with an IBM Remote Supervisor Adapter Slimline II as standard.

The system has the symptom described above.

Solution
If the problem occurs, unplug the server, and remove the CMOS battery from the new I/O Card, as described in detail in the xSeries 460 8872/8874 Problem Determination and Service Guide
 
Leave the battery out for a minimum of 15 minutes, then reinsert. Re-power the machine and continue.

Additional information
 
A small number of x460 I/O Card FRU's may hang with the symptoms above.
 
These symptoms should not repeat.
