Symptom

 ServeRAID version 6.20 will be the first ServeRAID release to support Windows 2003 clustering. This support is limited to a new installation of the operating systems; upgrading from a Windows 2000 Cluster to a Windows 2003 Cluster is not supported. ServeRAID version 7.00 does not support Windows 2003 Clustering; thus, version 7.00 is not an upgrade over version 6.20.08 on clustered environments.

Affected configurations

The system is configured with one or more of the following options:  

  • A Netfinity ServeRAID-4L Ultra160 SCSI controller, option part number 37L6091, replacement part number (FRU) 09N9540
  • A Netfinity ServeRAID-4M Ultra160 SCSI controller, option part number 37L6080, replacement part number (FRU) 37L7258
  • A Netfinity ServeRAID-4M Ultra160 SCSI controller (Japan), option part number 19K0565, replacement part number (FRU) 00N9543 (Japan)
  • A ServeRAID-4Lx Ultra160 SCSI controller, option part number 06P5740, replacement part number (FRU) 06P5741
  • A ServeRAID-4Mx Ultra160 SCSI controller, option part number 06P5736, replacement part number (FRU) 06P5737
  • A ServeRAID-6M controller (128MB cache), option part number 32P0033, replacement part number (FRU) 13N2197 replaces 02R0985
  • A ServeRAID-6M controller (256MB cache), option part number 02R0988, replacement part number (FRU) 13N2198 replaces 02R0998

The following NOS is affected:  

  • Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition

Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software. Please see the ServerProven compatibility page for more information.

Solution

Use the ServeRAID version 6.20 CD to set the correct level of firmware on the ServeRAID controllers to support Windows 2003 Clustering.

Additional information

 ServeRAID version 6.20 is the first ServeRAID release to support Windows 2003 Clustering. This release supports clustering only on a new installation. No upgrades from Windows 2000 Clustering to Windows 2003 Clustering are supported.
 
ServeRAID version 7.00 does not support clustering; thus, it is not an upgrade over ServeRAID version 6.20 for a clustered environment.
 
Attention: Do not use ServeRAID version 7.00 in a Windows 2003 clustered environment as this might result in loss of data.
