Release Notes
Abstract
Support for crawling and searching Microsoft SharePoint content depends on which versions of OmniFind Enterprise Edition and Microsoft Windows SharePoint Server are installed.
Content
OmniFind Enterprise Edition Version 9.1 Fix Pack 2 extends the ability to crawl SharePoint servers in several ways:
- Support for crawling SharePoint Server 2010 content.
Limitation: The crawling of social elements, such as comments, ratings, and tags, is not supported.
- Support for NT LAN Manager (NTLM) authentication through Internet Information Services IIS 7.x.
In previous versions, the SharePoint crawler supports BASIC, Digest, and NTLM authentication methods through IIS 6.x when accessing SharePoint web services and content.
- Support for farm-aware crawling.
When you configure a SharePoint crawler, the dsconfigurator process automatically detects the top-level sites on the SharePoint server and adds them as crawler targets. Thus, you can easily configure one crawler to collect content from multiple sites. To enable this support, you must deploy custom web services provided with Fix Pack 2 on the SharePoint server.
- Enhancements for secure search.
In previous versions, you were required to install an agent server on the SharePoint server if you wanted to enable secure search of SharePoint sources. With Fix Pack 2, an agent server is no longer required. Instead, you must deploy custom web services provided with Fix Pack 2 on the SharePoint server.
See Supported data sources in OmniFind Enterprise Edition, Version 9.1 for current information about the versions of SharePoint Server that are supported by different OmniFind Enterprise Edition fix packs.
Deploying web services on the SharePoint server
To take advantage of farm-aware crawling and security enhancements, you must deploy web services that are provided with OmniFind Enterprise Edition Version 9.1 Fix Pack 2 on the SharePoint server:
- Copy the ES_INSTALL_ROOT/bin/ESSPServices.zip and ESCommonServices.zip files to the SharePoint server.
- Unzip both archive files. Each archive contains one DLL file and one asmx file.
- Put the DLL files into the C:\inetpuwwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80\bin\ directory. This path is the default website. If the \bin directory does not exist, create it and put the files into it. The default port number in this path, 80, might be different, depending on the SharePoint server port.
- Put the asmx files into the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\ISAPI\ directory. This path is the default SharePoint application directory. The number in the specified path might be different, depending on the SharePoint server version. For SharePoint 2010, the number should be 14. For SharePoint 2007, the number should be 12.
- To verify that the deployment is successful, access the web services URLs with your browser:
- http://<SharePoint server>:<port>/_vti_bin/ESSPServices.asmx
http://<SharePoint server>:<port>/_vti_bin/ESCommonServices.asmx
In some environments, the following configurations must be applied to the IIS server that hosts SharePoint and the custom web services in order to complete the deployment:
- Allow .NET impersonation on IIS
- Change the ASP.NET trust level to WSS_Medium
For SharePoint 2010, you can apply these configurations through Internet Information Services Manager.
To change the ASP.NET trust level in SharePoint 2007, you must modify the web.config file.
The default path for this file is C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80\web.config.
Change the following section:
<trust level="WSS_Minimum" originUrl="" />
to:
<trust level="WSS_Medium" originUrl="" />

Notes:
1. An OmniFind Enterprise Edition agent server must be installed on the SharePoint server. 2. To take advantage of farm-aware crawling and the security enhancements available with Fix Pack 2, you must deploy the provided OmniFind Enterprise Edition web services on the SharePoint server. Installing an agent server on the SharePoint server is not required. 3. If you upgrade from OmniFind Enterprise Edition Fix Pack 1, you can continue to use the agent server that you installed on the SharePoint server to support secure search. Deploying the web services provided with Fix Pack 2 is not required. 4. Farm-aware crawling is not supported. You must configure multiple crawlers to crawl multiple sites. 5. To take advantage of farm-aware crawling, you must deploy the web services provided with Fix Pack 2 on the SharePoint server. Installing an agent server on the SharePoint server is not required.
