Are Microsoft deduplication-enabled volumes supported by the Tivoli Storage Manager Client?
Answer
Yes.
The Microsoft deduplication feature is transparent to the client.
This feature has nothing to do with the Tivoli Storage Manager deduplication functionality.
Standard file backups from Microsoft deduplication-enabled volumes as well as backups of Virtual guests (VMware and Hyper-V) using this type of volumes are supported.
IMPORTANT :
Currently, the client backs up the data from these volumes as a Non-Optimized backup.
That means that the data is rehydrated by the MicroSoft Data Deduplication feature and saved to the Tivoli Storage Manager Server as full size data.
This can, and will, have a performance and size impact on the backups.
