Support of the Excel 2007 XLSX Default File Type with System i Access Data Transfer

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document describes the support of the Excel 2007/2010 XLSX default file type with the System i Access for Windows Data Transfer product.

Resolving The Problem

Problem

When using the stand-alone Data Transfer GUI with V5R4, V6R1, and V7R1 System i Access for Windows, you will receive errors when specifying a file with a *.XLSX extension. For example, the scan function on the Create System i Database File wizard will return an Incorrect Function error when a XLSX file type is specified.

Note: The System i Access Data Transfer Excel Add-in does support the XLSX file type.

Resolution

The V5R4, V6R1, and V7R1 System i Access Data Transfer Stand-Alone GUI does not support the XLSX file type. There are no plans to support the XLSX file type in these versions in the future.

It is recommended that clients save their Excel 2007/2010 spreadsheet documents as the original XLS file type if they would like to use the Data Transfer Stand-Alone GUI.

Another option is to use the java based Access Client Solutions (ACS) client which supports XLSX. Information on this client can be found at: http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/power/software/i/access/solutions.html
