Steps to resolve a Datalink Classic connector failure that returns error code 400.

The Datalink Classic connectors may encounter a failure displaying “Failure: Failed to upload part with code: 400 & reason: Bad Request".

This article outlines how to address this connector error and the required troubleshooting steps.

Cause

  • A Datalink connector may encounter this error if the file being uploaded exceeds the permitted size.
  • TBM Studio allows a maximum upload size of 18 GB.
  • Users can verify this by running the Datalink Financial connector with the same source file (if they can run a DLF connector)—the error message clearly states: "File size exceeds maximum allowed limit for environmentId <env-id> of 18 GB".

Diagnosing The Problem

Users can view the file size by running the connector’s API export URL in a browser on the Apptio side and confirming whether it surpasses the 18 GB limit.

Resolving The Problem

  • The source data file must be trimmed to stay under the 18 GB limit.
  • Customers can apply filters to the data to lower the row count and consequently shrink the file size.
  • If the entire dataset is essential for the customer, they’ll need to split it into two or more subsets using filtering logic and set up separate connectors to upload each batch individually.
