This document provides steps on how to create SSH Keys for IBM Cognos Analytics on Cloud (CAoC) Dedicated SFTP connections.
Objective
By creating SSH Keys, you are able to send the public key to IBM and install the SSH Key into your SFTP tool and connect to your CAoC instance.
Steps
Creating SSH key on Windows™
- Download and install PuTTygen.
- Run the software and select RSA as the key type.
- Enter 4096 for the number of bits to generate.
- Select "Generate".
- Randomly move your mouse around the area underneath the progress bar. The mouse motions create.
- The randomly generated key.
- The key is ready when the progress bar is full.
- Save both the private and public key.
- Keep the private key safe as you need the key to SFTP to your environment. The public key is the key to be shared with IBM.
Creating SSH on Linux™ or Mac™
- Use ssh-keygen.
- Generate the public or private RSA key pair.
- Enter the file location you would like it saved (for examples, /Users/mymac/.ssh/id_rsa...mysftpkey).
- Enter the passphrase, for no passphrases this field remains empty.
- Enter the same passphrase again.
- Your identification is saved in mysftpkey.
- Your public key is saved in mysftpkey.pub.
- Keep the private key safe as you need to SFTP to your environment. The public key is the key to be shared with IBM.
