IBM Support

Steps to cleanup mounted HOTADD disks on virtual datamover.

Troubleshooting

Problem

How do I remove left over disks from a failed HOTADD backup?

Symptom

Virtual machine shows extra disks in VMware "edit settings"

Cause

This problem can occur if the backup process is stopped unexpectedly either by closing the command line windows, local GUI (dsm.exe) window, or the backup process crashes.

Environment

Virtual Windows datamover.

Diagnosing The Problem

The Windows virtual machine (datamover) will show extra disk(s) in the vSphere Client -> Edit settings. The disk will also show that it belongs to a different VM.

Windows disk manager will show an extra disk on the virtual datamover as well.

Resolving The Problem

In the vSphere client, click the disk that should be removed then click the "Remove" button.

Make sure that the "Remove from virtual machine" option is selected. Not the "Remove from virtual machine and delete" option.

Then click the OK button.
