Starting Rational License Key Server with an options file results in "CreateProcess error code: 0xc1"

Problem

Attempts to start IBM Rational License Key Server with an options file results in the error "CreateProcess error code: 0xc1".

Symptom

The full error message is as follows:

CreateProcess error code: 0xc1 File= C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\RationalRLKS\common\<options file name>.opt

Cause

This error occurs if

  • the options file has not been defined properly in the license file

    or

  • incorrect file syntax used in the options file

Resolving The Problem

Procedure:

  1. Open the rational_server_perm.dat file

  2. Edit the file with the correct syntax of pointing to the options file

    Example: If the file has the below syntax

    VENDOR ibmratl "C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\RationalRLKS\common\<options file name>.opt"

    Change it to:

    VENDOR ibmratl OPTIONS="C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\RationalRLKS\common\<options file name>.opt"

    Note: Ensure the options file is in .opt format

  3. Restart the license server
