Problem

SSH - Error: ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host

Symptom

User unable to connect to Connect:Enterprise SSH Server. A error was immediate receive to STDOUT when using OpenSSH command line client on HPUX.

Error Message

Error: Error: ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host

Resolving The Problem

Permissions were incorrect on the SSH sub directories. The permission should be set on the $CMUHOME/ssh/system directory as 700 and the files should be set for 600 for ssh_host_key and 640 for ssh_host_key.pub.

Problem can also be cause by either sending incorrect passphrase to the Connect:Enterprise SSH daemon or by not specifying a needed passphrase to the daemon if a passphrase was specified during installed.
