Troubleshooting
Problem
After having restored a database backup for Tivoli Storage Manager server an error may be logged into the db2diag.log at execution of first backup database after Server restart.
Symptom
The following error will be seen in the db2diag.log at backup database runtime:
2014-07-13-11.50.29.512351+120 I88067718E447 LEVEL: Error
PID : 12409 TID : 46912887580992PROC : db2sysc 0
INSTANCE: admin NODE : 000
EDUID : 62 EDUNAME: db2logmgr (TSMDB1) 0
FUNCTION: DB2 UDB, database utilities, sqluhUpdateLogArchive, probe:90
MESSAGE : SQL2171N The update of the recovery history file failed
because the specified object part does not exist in the file.
Diagnosing The Problem
Look for the following error message in the Tivoli Storage Manager Activity Log:
ANR4511E Volume history file /TSM/Archive/volhist.dat could not be opened.
To restore the database, access to this file is required. (SESSION: xxxxxx, PROCESS: xx)
ANR4510E The server could not write sequential volume
history information to /TSM/Archive/volhist.dat.
To restore the database, access to this file is required. (SESSION: xxxxxx, PROCESS: xx)
Resolving The Problem
Typically the error message "ANR4511E" means you either
1) do not have adequate space in the location that Server is attempting to update
- or -
2) the Tivoli Storage Manager instances does not have adequate authority to create/update a file in the directory.
To test this:
- log on as the Tivoli Storage Manager instance owner
- From the Tivoli Storage Manager instance owner home directory, run:
for example:
more > /TSM/Archive/CFGBACKUP/volhist.dat
and then see if you can create the new file in that directory.
If not, check the permissions for the directory structure and the permissions on the existing "volhist.dat" file or simply try to rename it.
If the permission tests above do not isolate or resolve the issue, be sure that you have adequate space available in the path where the volume history resides.
