Solution
SQL Server 2005 does not enable TCP/IP by default.? Use the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 --> Configuration Tools --> SQL Server Configuration Tool to enable TCP/IP and be sure that port 1433 (or an alternate port number of your choosing) is selected.

SQL Server 2005 uses dynamic port selection on named database instances.? Use port 1433 (or an alternate port number of your choosing) after enabling TCP/IP.
