Troubleshooting
Problem
You import a new data set into SPSS Statistics v27.0. Because the data contains customer responses from a survey, you want to identify any potential duplicates so that your analysis can be as accurate as possible. You decide to run the Data > Identify Duplicate Cases feature on your data set. When the results are returned, you observed that there is a duplicate case that was not picked up by this feature.
Symptom
Reviewing the data shows that there is a case that was not picked up by the Identify Duplicate Cases feature. The field being used to identify duplicate cases is a string type and contains the respondent's names. When executing a FREQUENCY analysis on this field, the duplicate case is identified but a warning is also displayed:
"One or more values of variable <fieldName> contained a non-printing character. Each such character was replaced by a space. The data itself was not modified."
