Source for Post Hoc tests for Friedman in Nonparametric Tests

Question & Answer

Question

I have run the Nonparametric Tests procedure (NPTESTS command) in IBM SPSS Statistics with a request for Friedman's ANOVA for related samples. The significance level for the Friedman test was less than .05 and multiple comparison tests were provided in the output. I would like to know the name of the multiple comparison tests and a reference for the tests in the statistical literature. I found the formulae for the tests in the Statistical Algorithms documentation (under Help>Algorithms), but the test name and source were not provided in the "Friedman's Test and Kendall's Coefficient of Concordance" section in the "Pairwise Multiple Comparisons (nonparametric tests algorithms) page.

Answer

The name for the test is the Dunn-Bonferroni test. The source reference for the multiple comparison test is:

Dunn, O. J. 1964. Multiple Comparisons Using Rank Sums.
"Technometrics", 6, 241-252.
.
The stepwise-stepdown version is using the same principle.
