Troubleshooting


Problem

The following IBM Cognos Series 7, Unix-based products are shipped with an installation program (IBM Cognos Installer) that uses the Newt and the S-Lang software development libraries. Newt is used under the terms of the GNU Library General Public, and S-Lang is used under the Perl Artistic License: IBM Cognos Query Cognos NoticeCastIBM Cognos Visualizer ServerCognos Web Services SDKImpromptu Web ReportsPowerPlay Enterprise ServerPowerPlay Transformer A copy of the GNU Library General Public License applicable to the Newt package is included at Appendix A to this document or may be obtained from the Free Software Foundation, Inc., [675 Mass Ave, Cambridge, MA 02139, USA (http://www.fsf.org/) or see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/old-licenses/library.html A copy of the Perl Artistic License applicable to the S-Lang package is included at Appendix B to this document or may be obtained at http://www.s-lang.org/docs.html.

Newt - A development library for text mode user interfaces.

Description: Newt is a programming library for color text mode, widget based user interfaces. Newt can be used to add stacked windows, entry widgets, checkboxes, radio buttons, labels, plain text fields, scrollbars, etc., to text mode user interfaces. This package also contains the shared library needed by programs built with Newt, as well as a /usr/bin/dialog replacement called whiptail. Newt is based on the S-Lang library (see below). In addition, beginning with Series 7 Version 4 (7.4) MR3, Unix-based products are shipped with relocatable (dynamically linked) version of the Newt library. S-Lang - A development library for multi-platform software

Description: S-Lang is a multi-platform programmer's library designed to allow a developer to create robust multi-platform software. It provides facilities required by interactive applications such as display/screen management, keyboard input, keymaps, etc.

This package is a dependency of the Newt package. Cognos Series 7 Unix-based products, prior to 7.4 MR3, are shipped with an installation program containing a library based on:- Name : S-Lang (http://www.s-lang.org) Version : 1.2 Beginning with Series 7 Version 4 (7.4) MR3, Unix-based products are shipped with a relocatable (dynamically linked) version of the S-Lang library. Source code for the S-Lang library is included in the attachment to this document. To enable the attachment, select the checkbox below.
