This article has some suggestions for performance tuning for IBM MQ Java JMS client applications.
.
a) -Dcom.ibm.mq.jmqi.defaultMaxMsgSize=<size of largest average message>
b) Setting TCP.ClntRcvBuffSize and TCP.ClntSndBuffSize to value of 0 (zero) to use the defaults from the OS
