Technical Blog Post

Abstract

Software version 12.2.0 is released

Body

Released just recently on November 24th, software version 12.2.0 is a major software release that supports the brand-new hardware model 425 of IBM FlashSystem A9000R, adds newly supported functionality features, enhances performance capabilities, and resolves miscellaneous issues.

Support for hardware model 425

Hardware model 425 is a next-gen, cost-effective configuration that integrates new compute (grid controller) and flash storage (flash enclosure) components, with greater physical capacity and miscellaneous performance enhancements. You can find more detailed information about model 425 in the product Deployment Guide and data sheets.

Hardware model 425 is supported only by software version 12.2.0 or later. However, software version 12.2.0 is also compatible with the previous 415 hardware model (supported also by software versions 12.0.x and 12.1.x).

Asynchronous mirroring

Version 12.2.0 delivers asynchronous mirroring improvements. Scalability is improved with support for up to 512 asynchronous relationships. The recovery point objective (RPO) can now be configured as low as 1 minute and mirroring interval as low as 20 seconds.

Additionally, cross-generation asynchronous mirroring between your IBM FlashSystem A9000R systems and XIV® Gen3 systems is now supported, allowing you to leverage your XIV Gen3 investment and lower the cost of implementing data protection and disaster recovery. Operations are simplified by the IBM® Hyper-Scale Manager user-interface, allowing unified management of both IBM FlashSystem A9000R and XIV Gen3 using a single pane of glass.

IBM Hyper-Scale Mobility (also known as 'online volume migration' or OLVM)

Starting from version 12.2.0, IBM Hyper-Scale Mobility enables a non-disruptive migration of volumes between any combination of IBM FlashSystem A9000 and IBM FlashSystem A9000R, provided that both storage systems are upgraded to version 12.2.0.

Improved access by IBM Support

Version 12.2.0 introduces improved support access by enabling multiple source IP addresses with the xiv_support_enable command.

Miscellaneous resolved issues

A range of miscellaneous issues have been fixed in version 12.2.0. For more information, check out the 12.2.0 release notes.
