Resolving The Problem
This document explains how to use SNDDST *LMSG to send an e-mail to system users.
It is sometimes necessary to send an e-mail to a number of system users. Here are some basic considerations and actions to be able to set up a distribution list to accomplish that:
Base Assumptions:
| 1. | SMTP is configured and can successfully send an e-mail to any orall of the individual users to be included in the distribution list. |
| 2. | The directory entry for each of the users is configured to use the following settings: o Mail service level . . 2 o Preferred address . . . 3 o SMTP NAME is defined as their e-mail address. |
Example Screen Shots:

Press F19 = Change name for SMTP:

You can verify that the individual directory entries are working correctly by sending an e-mail (SNDDST *LMSG) by specifying the individual recipient user IDs. An example of one of these test e-mails follows:
SNDDST TYPE(*LMSG) TOUSRID((EXAMPLE TESTSYS)) DSTD('TEST email to recipient') LONGMSG('Let me know when you receive this email.')
Once you have verified that you can send e-mails to the individuals specifying their user ID, you can create and define a distribution list using the WRKDSTL command.
Example: WRKDSTL
Select Option 1 to add new Distribution List with the list ID of your choice:

On the next screen, you can place a description of what you plan to use the list for. Once completed, the next screen is where you define the system users that you want to include in the list:

Once your distribution list has been defined, you can use SNDDST to verify that it works similar to the example below:
SNDDST TYPE(*LMSG) TOUSRID((NOTIFY TEAM)) DSTD('TEST new distribution list ') LONGMSG('Let me know when you receive this email.')
Note: The distribution list ID is typed in the Recipient User ID field rather than the Internet Recipient field if you were sending a Long Message(e-mail) to an individual's e-mail address.

Your distribution list is now complete.
