IBM Support

Slow performance on AIX 6.1

Troubleshooting

Problem

IBM Sterling Connect:Direct for Unix version 4.1.0 slow performance on AIX 6.1. High CPU activity

Symptom

Process performance is getting slow. Time-outs and Lost connections show up. ndm_auth failures can be caused by that.

This occurs when transferring several files in parallel (around 100-150 files, which means around 150 process forks max).

The session limit of maximum 255 parallel transfers was never reached.

Using 'nmon' utility, you can see that AIX CPU's are almost 100% on system workloads (kernel).

The relevant filesystem transfer speed drops to around 5 MB/s.
