Preface

Welcome to the IBM Security Identity Manager SharePoint Adapter.

These Release Notes contain information for the following products that was not available when the IBM Security Identity Manager manuals were printed:

·         IBM Security Identity Manager SharePoint Adapter Installation and Configuration Guide

Adapter Features and Purpose

The SharePoint Adapter is designed to create and manage User Accounts on the SharePoint platform. The adapter runs in "agentless" mode and communicates using HTTP/S and LDAP protocol. The SharePoint adapter supports stand-alone and Active Directory backed user registries. Other user registries supported by SharePoint have not been tested.

IBM recommends the installation of this Adapter (and the prerequisite IBM Security Directory Integrator) on each node of IBM Security Identity Manager WAS cluster. A single copy of the adapter can handle multiple IBM Security Identity Manager Services. The optimum deployment configuration is based, in part, on the topology of your network domain, but the primary factor is the planned structure of your IBM Security Identity Manager Provisioning Policies and Approval Workflow process. Please refer to the IBM Security Identity Manager Knowledge Center for a discussion of these topics.

The IBM Security Identity Manager Adapters are powerful tools that require Administrator Level authority. Adapters operate much like a human system administrator, creating accounts, permissions and home directories. Operations requested from the IBM Security Identity Manager server will fail if the Adapter is not given sufficient authority to perform the requested task. IBM recommends that this Adapter run with administrative (root) permissions.

Installation and Configuration Notes

See the IBM Security Identity Manager Adapter Installation Guide for detailed instructions.

The SharePoint Adapter Installation and Configuration Guide can be obtained from IBM Knowledge Center at
https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSIGMP_1.0.0/com.ibm.itim_pim.doc/c_adapters_intro.htm

Corrections to Installation Guide

The following corrections added in Installation guide-> In chapter Installing Under the section Creating an adapter service/target (point no.7):

1.       If you want to create service with NTLM authentication, then Admin login should be in following format

<Domain Name>\<Login Name>

2.       For NTLM Authentication, select Authentication mode as ‘Claims-Based Authentication’.

Configuration Notes

The following configuration notes apply to this release:

SharePoint Service Group Management

The management of SharePoint Groups disabled in this release due to lack of SharePoint 2013 and SharePoint 2016 Client API to properly manage Groups.

SharePoint Site Configuration

SharePoint site configuration can contain multiple authentication providers, but the Adapter supports Basic Authentication and NTLM Authentication protocol.

If Basic Authentication is used with the adapter, then it is It is recommended to extend the SharePoint web application and configure an alternate access mapping to cater specifically for the Adapter requirements. In addition, because Basic Authentication contains credentials sent in clear text, it is highly recommended to configure the Adapter to communicate with SharePoint over Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to protect the credentials.

The following steps are recommended to ensure the Adapter works with the SharePoint site (refer to Microsoft SharePoint Documentation for detailed instructions):

  1. Extend the SharePoint Web Application to a new IIS Web Site.
  2. Configure the Authentication Provider for the newly extended site.
    1. Select the check box for Enable Windows Authentication
    2. Ensure that Integrated Windows authentication is not selected.
    3. Select the check box for Basic authentication (password is sent in clear text).
    4. Ensure that no other authentication methods are selected.
  1. Configure Alternate Access Mapping for this site.
    1. Remove the default public URL that was created in step 1
    2. Replace the IIS Site URL with an appropriate internal URL mapping
  1. Configure the new IIS Website for SSL.
  2. Import the SSL certificate into the Adapter Dispatcher's certificate trust store (view the IDI_HOME/timsol/solution.properties file and search for property javax.net.ssl.trustStore to determine the location of the trust store file).

Customizing or Extending Adapter Features

The IBM Security Identity Manager adapters can be customized and/or extended. The type and method of this customization may vary from adapter to adapter.

Refer to the ‘
IBM Security Identity Adapter Development and Customization Guide

Support for Customized Adapters

The integration to the IBM Security Identity Manager server "the adapter framework" is supported. However, IBM does not support the customizations, scripts, or other modifications. If you experience a problem with a customized adapter, IBM Support may require the problem to be demonstrated on the GA version of the adapter before a PMR is opened.

Supported Configurations

Installation Platform

The IBM Security Identity Manager Adapter was built and tested on the following product versions.

Due to continuous Java security updates that may be applied to your ISIM or PIM servers, the following SDI releases are the officially supported versions:

Earlier versions of SDI that are still supported may function properly, however to resolve any communication errors, you must upgrade your SDI releases to the officially supported versions by the adapters.
