Resolving The Problem
This document describes how to set up and use a Management Central System Monitor for LAN Utilization.
To set up and use a Management Central System Monitor for LAN Utilization, you should do the following:
Step 1: From a PC, open System i Navigator and log in to Management Central. Go to Management Central -> Monitors -> System:

Step 2: Right click System, and select New Monitor:

Step 3: In the Name field, type a name and description for the Monitor:

Step 4: Highlight LAN Utilization (Maximum), LAN Utilization (Minimum), or both. In this example, both are highlighted. Click Add:

Step 5: In this case, the defaults were used for Collection interval, Maximum graphing value, and Display time:

Step 6: Thresholds can be set as below, if required. In this case, a message is being sent if the MAX LAN Utilization exceeds 80% for one interval.
Note: These thresholds are for example purposes only. Actual values depend on the environment and the reason the monitor is being started.

Step 7: A second threshold can be added as shown below:

Step 8: Add Actions as required. In this case, the defaults are used:

Step 9: Under the Systems and groups tab, add the system(s) to be monitored:

Step 10: Click OK:

Step 11: Find the monitor in Management Central, right click on it, and select Start:

Step 12: Selecting a point on the graph, in this case, 1:35 on the LAN Utilization (Maximum) point, you can see the individual utilization for different LAN lines on the system. In this case, LINE SITEETH was 6% utilized. In addition, the red bar to the left of the y axis shows the threshold selected.
Note: To set up a monitor for a specific line only, a Communications Line Utilization (Maximum or Average) can be used or in addition to the LAN monitors.

Step 13: To stop the monitor, right click the monitor in Management Central, and select Stop:
