Question & Answer
Question
Running z/OS 1.13 on a single EC12 footprint. Have (2) new ICF LPARs we are defining connectivity to. I have 2 connectivity scenarios, I would like to know which is best: Scenario 1: For the ICP channels, each pair consist of: (1) ICP defined as DED to CF1 (1) ICP defined as SHR to LPAR1, LPAR2 Then connect the two ICP channels to each other Scenario 2: For the ICP channels, should each pair consist of: (2) ICPs defined as SHR to CF1, LPAR1, LPAR2 Then connect the two ICP channels to each other Do both methods work ok? Is there an advantage to one over the other?
Answer
Both methods work; however, if Method 1 is chosen, systems, running in LPAR1 and LPAR2, will have only 7 CF devices (send message buffers really) at their disposal.
Method 2 provides 14 CF devices.
Remember:
CF buffers are NOT affiliated with a particular CF path, they are affiliated with the whole CF.
It is the only difference I can think of.
