Setting HMC Host name and Domain name

How To


Summary

This document provides procedure to change HMC network settings for HMC hostname and Domain name.

Objective

A unique hostname must be assigned to the HMC. Localhost is reserved for the loopback address

To launch JNLP VTERM from HMC Remote console, the domain name must be configured. Otherwise, the VTERM launch will fail.

Environment

7063-CR1, 7063-CR2, or ppc641e vHMC on PowerVM
7042-*, or x86 vHMC


Steps

To check your HMC network settings, from HMC command line, run:

lshmc -n

hostname=<HMC must have a Host name NOT "localhost">,domain=<Domain name must be set>,


Use chhmc or the HMC GUI to configure HMC hostname and Domain name.


You can change the network setting from CLI:

To change other network settings:

chhmc -c network

-s modify

[-h host-name]

[-d network-domain-name]

[-g gateway [-i interface]]

[--help]



Or from HMC GUI (if you are using classical):

HMC Management > Console Settings > Change Network Settings > Identification tab
