Troubleshooting
Problem
This document describes how to set up BRMS to use an alias for networking.
Resolving The Problem
This document describes how to set up BRMS to use an alias for networking.
Adding or Updating an Alias System Name
Use the following command to add or update an alias system name:
CALL QBRM/Q1AOLD PARM('ALIASNAME' '2' 'RMTSYSNM' 'RMTNETID' 'TCPALIAS' 'SNAALIAS' 'SNANETID' 'RDBENTRYALIAS')
Parameters 1 through 8 are required parameters and can not be blank; they must be in uppercase characters. The values are truncated if the length of any parameter exceeds the maximum allowed length.
Example
CALL PGM(QBRM/Q1AOLD) PARM('ALIASNAME' '2' 'AS400' 'APPN' 'AS400TCP' 'AS400NANM' 'APPNSNA' 'AS400RDB')
The above command forces all BRMS TCP/IP communications to use AS400TCP as the system name when communicating with the IBM System i products. All BRMS SNA communications use AS400SNANM as the system name and APPNSNA as the Network ID when communicating with the System i. All RDB communications use the AS400RDB database name, rather than the AS400 entry.
Deleting an Alias System Name
Use the following command to delete an alias system name:
CALL QBRM/Q1AOLD PARM('ALIASNAME' '3' 'RMTSYSNM' 'RMTNETID')
Parameters 1 through 4 are required parameters and can not be blank; they are in uppercase characters only. The parameter is truncated if the length of any parameter exceeds the maximum allowed length.
Display System Aliases used by BRMS
To display what aliases are used by BRMS to communicate (using TCP/IP, SNA, or DRDA) with systems in the BRMS network, you should issue the following command:
QSYS/CALL QBRM/Q1AOLD PARM('ALIASNAME' '7')
Adding or Updating an Alias System Name
Use the following command to add or update an alias system name:
CALL QBRM/Q1AOLD PARM('ALIASNAME' '2' 'RMTSYSNM' 'RMTNETID' 'TCPALIAS' 'SNAALIAS' 'SNANETID' 'RDBENTRYALIAS')
Parameters 1 through 8 are required parameters and can not be blank; they must be in uppercase characters. The values are truncated if the length of any parameter exceeds the maximum allowed length.
Parameter | Value | Type/length | Description |
1 | ALIASNAME | Char 10 | Function name. |
2 | 2 | Char 1 | Action: 2 - add/update, 3 - delete. |
3 | RMTSYSNM | Char 8 | Remote system name. |
4 | RMTNETID | Char 8 | Network Identifier for the remote system. |
5 | TCPALIAS | Char 8 | This is the alias system name used for TCP/IP communication. The special value *NONE can be specified to indicate no communication will be done through TCP/IP. |
6 | SNAALIAS | Char 8 | This is the alias system name used for SNA communication. The special value *NONE can be specified to indicate no communication will be done through SNA. |
7 | SNANETID | Char 8 | Network Identifier for the alias SNA system. |
8 | RDBENTRYALIAS | Char 18 | Alias RDB directory entry name. |

ALIASNAME | Char 10 | Function name |
2

3 | Char 1 | Action: 3 - delete |
3

RMTSYSNM | Char 8 | Remote system name |

RMTNETID | Char 8 | Network Identifier for remote system |
Display System Aliases used by BRMS
To display what aliases are used by BRMS to communicate (using TCP/IP, SNA, or DRDA) with systems in the BRMS network, you should issue the following command:
QSYS/CALL QBRM/Q1AOLD PARM('ALIASNAME' '7')
