Answer

Setting Up Automatic Carrier Selection

About this task

The shipper administrator can use the following processto enable automatic carrier selection.

Procedure

  1. Set up your Tendering Strategies in Step 1 of Shipper Configuration.
    Notes:
    • You define a different tendering strategy for each transportationmode. You might want to turn on automatic carrier selection for somemodes and turn it off for others.
    • Set Shipments Tendered By and CarrierSelection By to Sterling TMS. Ifyou do tendering or carrier selection outside of Sterling TMS you cannotuse automatic carrier selection.
  2. For each tendering strategy set Automatic CarrierSelection to Yes if you want todo auto-tendering for that mode. You can think of this setting asa master switch to turn on and off automatic carrier selection forthis mode.

For example you might define various RouteGuide rules to use automatic carrier selection. When you are readyto start using automatic carrier selection change AutomaticCarrier Selection to Yes on theEdit Tender Strategies page.

  3. Go to Step 7 of Shipper Configuration where you defineyour Route Guide:
    • Add or edit a Route Guide rule and set Automatic CarrierSelection to Yes.
    • You also select which carrier types are eligible for automaticcarrier selection. For example you might want to do auto-tenderingonly for primary carriers.
  4. Repeat Step 3 to define automatic carrier selection foradditional Route Guide rules.
