This Technote provides a detailed overview of how permissions are managed in Planning Analytics Workspace.
The following levels of permissions can be assigned for Planning Analytics Workspace assets (workbooks, views, and folders):
- View only - The user can view content in the asset, but can't edit it.
- View & edit - The user can view content in the asset, edit values, and delete it.
- Full control - The user has full administrative control over the asset and can edit and delete it.
Planning Analytics Workspace allows permissions to be assigned starting at the root level of the Shared folder. The Everyone group must have at least View only access to the root of the Shared folder. It is not possible to remove all permissions from the Everyone group on the root of the Shared folder. Only PAW administrators can modify permissions on the root of the Shared folder.
When a new Workspace asset (folders, views, or books) is created, that asset inherits the permissions of its parent folder by default. In order for this asset to be visible to a user, that user must have at least View only permission on the folder that contains the asset.
A user must have View & edit permission to create new content in a folder.
When examining the permissions of content in Planning Analytics Workspace (other than the root of the shared folder) the default view of the set permissions window will display the current effective permissions of the asset. This is the combination of permissions based on the access provided by the member of groups, as well as individual user permissions assignment of the asset's parent folder.
Workspace users with Full control permission on some assets can modify the permissions of that asset. To override the current effective permissions of an asset the 'Inherit permissions from folder' checkbox must first be deselected.
