Troubleshooting

Problem

This document contains information regarding Service Tools user IDs.

Resolving The Problem

Service Tools User IDs have been required since R510. There were two notable changes regarding these profiles at R520:

Change 1 - The ability to manage Service Tools user IDs at R520 in SST (versus this DST-only function at R510). To work with Service Tools User IDs at SST, select Option 8, Work with Service Tools User IDs. This shows the Work with Service Tools User IDs screen that enables the ability to do the following: Create, Change Password, Delete, Display, Enable, Disable, Change privilege, and Change description on a Service Tools User ID.

                                                     Work with Service Tools User IDs
                                                            System:   RCHASXXX
 Type option, press Enter.
   1=Create              2=Change password      3=Delete
   4=Display             5=Enable               6=Disable
   7=Change privileges   8=Change description

 Opt  User ID     Description                                     Status
  _   __________
      QSECOFR     QSECOFR                                         Enabled
      QSRV        QSRV                                            Enabled
      11111111    11111111                                        Enabled
      22222222    22222222                                        Enabled
      USERID1     NAME                                            Enabled
      USERID96    NAME                                            Enabled

                                                                        More...
 F3=Exit   F5=Refresh   F12=Cancel

Notes:
1. Up to 96 user-defined profiles can be created.
2. The default user IDs are QSECOFR, QSRV, 22222222, and 11111111.

Change 2 - Another new option within Service Tools at R520 is 'Work with system security'. This option provides the following screen:

Allow system value security changes. . . . . . . .   1  1=Yes, 2=No
Allow new digital certificates . . . . . . . . . .   1  1=Yes, 2=No
Allow a service tools user ID with a
    default and expired password to change
    its own password . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1  1=Yes, 2=No

Allow a service tools user ID with a default and expired password to change its own password - When set to 1=Yes, Service Tools User IDs that have a default and expired password will be allowed to change their passwords during SST sign-on (selecting F9 on the STRSST sign-on display). A default password is a password that is the same password as the Service Tools User ID. When set to No, Service Tools User IDs that have a default and expired password are not allowed to change their passwords during SST sign-on. Rather, use DST to reset the password.

When the CHGDSTPWD PASSWORD(*DEFAULT) command is used, the Service Tools User ID QSECOFR will meet these restrictions and the password will not be allowed to be changed from SST. When the Service Tools User IDs' passwords are the default and expired and this option is set to No, the passwords can be changed from DST.
