The ServeRAID-3H/3HB controller may flush it's cache

Symptom

The ServeRAID-3H/3HB controller may flush it's cache when:

  • the array includes a RAID level-5 logical drive running in WB mode.
  • a drive goes defunct during an active flush to that drive.
  • an adapter is reset after another the flush command is sent to the same sector on that drive.
Affected configurations

The system is configured with the following option(s):

  • a Netfinity ServeRAID-3H Ultra2 SCSI Adapter, option part number 01K7207, replacement part number (FRU) 01K7396
  • a Netfinity ServeRAID-3HB Ultra2 SCSI Adapter, option part number 37L6086, replacement part number (FRU) 01K7396 (adapter), replacement part number (FRU) 09L2105 (cache)

Solution

Download and apply "IBM ServeRAID BIOS and Firmware diskette", version 5.11.05, or later. The referenced file is available from the ServeRAID Software Matrix.

Additional information

The behavior is corrected in ServeRAID firmware 5.11.05 to increase data reliability.
