Server Stuck at Windows Logo during Boot

Troubleshooting

Problem

The server might fail to boot past the Microsoft Windows logo after changing iSCSI HBA configuration for the remote device.

Resolving The Problem

If the boot device in the server has been reconfigured to another iSCSI HBA or port, or a new iSCSI HBA was installed, and the procedure for configuring a boot device or installing a new adapter was not followed correctly, the server might fail to boot past the Microsoft Windows logo.

When there are multiple iSCSI HBAs installed, or the server is using the dual port IBM BladeCenter iSCSI HBA, and the boot device was reconfigured to another iSCSI HBA or port on that server, clearing persistent data on the iSCSI HBA or port previously used as a boot device is required.

When a new iSCSI HBA is installed on the server and that adapter was previously used on another server, clearing the adapter persistent data on the new adapter is required as part of the new adapter installation process.

This document is pertinent only to Qlogic hardware initiator.

To clear persistent data on an iSCSI HBA, you should follow the process Resetting the cached iSCSI Initiator configuration information defined in the iSCSI Host Bus Adapter for IBM BladeCenter or xSeries document.
