Question & Answer
Question
How to tell the Tivoli Storage Manager server which server option file to use?
Cause
The default server option file is called dsmserv.opt, located in the server instance directory. There will be times where you want to start the server with an option file other than the default.
Answer
The default server option file is specified in the registry. Assuming the server instance is Server1, the following registry key contains the server option file name:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> IBM -> ADSM -> CurrentVersion -> Server -> Server1 -> Options
In order to use a different server option file, modify this registry key and restart the server.
WARNING
The workaround described in this article require you to use the regedit.exe or reg.exeutilities to edit the registry. Errors in editing the registry can render the operating system unstable or unbootable. If you are not familiar or comfortable with editing the registry, then it is recommended that you ask your system administrator for assistance. It is also recommended to backup/export the current registry before making modifications.
Alternatively, you can start the server in the foreground temporarily using the dsmserv -o option. Please consult the Tivoli Storage Manger information center for additional information and flags when running DSMSERV.
