Sending a Message to Predefined List of Users

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document provides a procedure to send a message to a predefined list of users.

Resolving The Problem

To send a message to a predefined list of users, do the following:

1.

On an operating system command line, create a distribution list using the CRTDSTL command similar to the following:

CRTDSTL LSTID(TOMLIST1 RCHASBDS) LSTD('Test distribution list for Tom Smith')
2.On an operating system command line, type the following:

WRKDSTL

Press the Enter key. This will give you a list of distribution lists.
3.Select Option 8 to work with list entries.
4.Select Option 1 to add entries and you will receive a screen where you may enter many recipients. NOTE: recipients must be enrolled in the system directory(so must have a profile on the system and a directory entry defined with and SMTP name that is their desired email address)
5.To send a message to all the members of the list, the following command can be used:

SNDDST TYPE(*MSG) TOUSRID((TOMLIST1 RCHASBDS)) DSTD('ANYTHING') MSG('Hi there - Ready for Lunch break?')
