Seeing DISPLAY NET,BFRUSE commands every ten minutes in the netlog

Question & Answer

Question

Seeing the DISPLAY NET,BFRUSE command being issued every ten minutes in the netlog, do not know who/what is doing that, or how to stop the output coming to the netlog.

Cause

In this case, the HDRTYPE1 showed (V) which indicates a PPOLOG echo of console operator command.

PPOLOG is a parameter users can turn on/off in VTAM that says to send any VTAM activity from the system console to NetView. You can code ppolog=no "IF" you don't want them in the NETLOG.

The Reviewing VTAM Start Options topic contains more information about the PPOLOG parameter, see the hotlink below.

The next question is how to stop the D NET,BFRUSE output from appearing in the netlog each time the command gets issues.

Answer

To help figure out who/what was issuing the command, collect a VTAM dump when the D NET,BFRUSE output is generated i.e.

F NET,CSDUMP,MESSAGE=IST350I

The dump will only be taken on the first IST350I message issued.

The dump showed that BMC Mainview for IP monitor was issuing the command.

For the second question, you can turn off PPOLOG (PPOLOG=NO), or write an exit, because those messages do not go through automation, they go straight to the log. PPOLOG messages have a different HDRMTYPE and come across via the PPO API from VTAM, the PPT sends them directly to the netlog and bypasses automation.
