Remediation/Fixes

For APM WebSphere Application Server Agent, APM Tomcat Agent, APM SAP NetWeaver Java Stack Agent and APM Data Collector for J2SE, IBM strongly recommends addressing the vulnerability now by applying the workaround mentioned in the 'Workarounds and Mitigation' Section.

Workarounds and Mitigations

For APM WebSphere Application Server Agent, APM Tomcat Agent, APM SAP NetWeaver Java Stack Agent and APM Data Collector for J2SE follow the following steps as a workaround.

okhttp-3.9.0.jar must be upgraded to okhttp-4.12.0.jar from Maven Repository: Search/Browse/Explore (mvnrepository.com)

Procedure:

I. For APM WebSphere Application Server Agent:

Step 1: Stop the agent.

Step 2:

i. For Windows: Navigate to the folder $CANDLEHOME\dchome\<version>\ttdc\lib\ext

ii. For Linux/AIX/SOL:  Navigate to the directory $CANDLEHOME/yndchome/<version>/ttdc/lib/ext,

where <dchome>/<yndchome> would be data collector home  and <version> would be data collector version for WebSphere Application Server Agent.

Step 3: Take the backup of okhttp-3.9.0.jarReplace existing okhttp-3.9.0.jar with okhttp-4.12.0.jar.

Step 4: Start the agent.

II. For APM Tomcat Agent:

Step 1: Stop the agent.

Step 2:

i. For Windows: Navigate to the folder $CANDLEHOME\<dchome>\<version>\ttdc\lib\ext
ii. For Linux: Navigate to the directory $CANDLEHOME/<dchome>/<version>/ttdc/lib/ext,

where <dchome> would be otdchome  and <version> would be 7.3.0.15.0 for Tomcat Agent.

Step 3: Take the backup of okhttp-3.9.0.jarReplace existing okhttp-3.9.0.jar with okhttp-4.12.0.jar.

Step 4: Start the agent.

III. For APM SAP NetWeaver Java Stack  Agent:

Step 1: Stop the agent.

Step 2:

i. For Windows: Navigate to the folder $CANDLEHOME\<dchome>\<version>\ttdc\lib\ext
ii. For Linux/AIX: Navigate to the directory $CANDLEHOME/<dchome>/<version>/ttdc/lib/ext,

where <dchome> would be svdchome  and <version> would be 7.3.0.17.0 for SAP NWJS Agent.

Step 3: Take the backup of okhttp-3.9.0.jarReplace existing okhttp-3.9.0.jar with okhttp-4.12.0.jar.

Step 4: Start the agent.

IV. For APM Data Collector for J2SE:

Step 1: Stop the agent.

Step 2:

i. For Windows: Navigate to the folder $..\<dchome>\<version>\ttdc\lib\ext
ii. For Linux: Navigate to the directory $../<dchome>/<version>/ttdc/lib/ext,

where <dchome> would be .gdc directory of J2SE DC agent and <version> would be 7.3.0.17.0 for J2SE DC Agent.

Step 3: Take the backup of okhttp-3.9.0.jarReplace existing okhttp-3.9.0.jar with okhttp-4.12.0.jar.

Step 4: Start the agent.

CUSTOMERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ASSESSING THE IMPACT OF ANY ACTUAL OR POTENTIAL SECURITY VULNERABILITY. In addition to other efforts to address potential vulnerabilities, IBM periodically updates the record of components contained in our product offerings. As part of that effort, if IBM identifies previously unidentified packages in a product/service inventory, we address relevant vulnerabilities regardless of CVE date. Inclusion of an older CVEID does not demonstrate that the referenced product has been used by IBM since that date, nor that IBM was aware of a vulnerability as of that date. We are making clients aware of relevant vulnerabilities as we become aware of them. "Affected Products and Versions" referenced in IBM Security Bulletins are intended to be only products and versions that are supported by IBM and have not passed their end-of-support or warranty date. Thus, failure to reference unsupported or extended-support products and versions in this Security Bulletin does not constitute a determination by IBM that they are unaffected by the vulnerability. Reference to one or more unsupported versions in this Security Bulletin shall not create an obligation for IBM to provide fixes for any unsupported or extended-support products or versions.
