Security Bulletin

Summary

PowerKVM is affected by vulnerabilities in the Linux kernel . IBM has now addressed these vulnerabilities.

Vulnerability Details

CVEID: CVE-2017-12153
DESCRIPTION:
Linux Kernel is vulnerable to a denial of service, caused by a NULL pointer dereference in the nl80211_set_rekey_data() function in net/wireless/nl80211.c. A local authenticated attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause the system to crash.
CVSS Base Score: 5.5
CVSS Temporal Score: See https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/132478 for the current score
CVSS Environmental Score*: Undefined
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H)

CVEID: CVE-2017-15265
DESCRIPTION:
Linux Kernel could allow a local attacker to gain elevated privileges on the system, caused by a use-after-free memory error in the ALSA sequencer interface (/dev/snd/seq). By persuading a victim to open a specially-crafted application, an attacker could exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code on the system with elevated privileges.
CVSS Base Score: 7.8
CVSS Temporal Score: See https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/133342 for the current score
CVSS Environmental Score*: Undefined
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H)

CVEID: CVE-2017-12193
DESCRIPTION:
Linux Kernel is vulnerable to a denial of service, caused by a NULL pointer dereference in the assoc_array implementation. By sending a specially-crafted request, a local attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause the system to crash.
CVSS Base Score: 5.5
CVSS Temporal Score: See https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/134628 for the current score
CVSS Environmental Score*: Undefined
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H)

CVEID: CVE-2017-7533
DESCRIPTION:
Linux Kernel could allow a local attacker to gain elevated privileges on the system, caused by a race condition in inotify_handle_event() and vfs_rename() function. By using a specially-crafted application, an attacker could exploit this vulnerability to gain elevated privileges or cause a denial of service.
CVSS Base Score: 8.4
CVSS Temporal Score: See https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/129919 for the current score
CVSS Environmental Score*: Undefined
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H)
