Summary

IBM Storage Protect for Virtual Environments: Data Protection for VMware can be affected by vulnerabilities in the Expat library. The vulnerabilities can lead to execution of arbitrary code, as described by the CVEs in the "Vulnerability Details" section. The vulnerabilities have been addressed.

DESCRIPTION:   Expat (aka libexpat) could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the system, caused by an integer overflow in the doProlog function. By sending a specially-crafted request, an attacker could exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code on the system.

Remediation/Fixes

 

IBM strongly recommends addressing the vulnerability now by upgrading. The vulnerability is fixed as of version 8.1.15.0, but version 8.1.20.0 or later is recommended.
