A security vulnerability has been discovered in OpenSSL. Some configurations of IBM Rational ClearCase may expose this vulnerability.

Description: OpenSSL could allow a local attacker to obtain sensitive information, caused by an implementation error in ECDSA (Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm). An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to recover ECDSA nonces. This vulnerability can only be exploited locally, authentication is not required and the exploit is not complex. An exploit can only partially affect confidentiality, but not integrity or availability.

Affected Products and Versions
IBM Rational ClearCase versions:
- 7.1.1 through 184.108.40.206
- 7.1.2 through 220.127.116.11
- 8.0 through 18.104.22.168
- 8.0.1 through 22.214.171.124
Note: Versions earlier than 7.1.1 are not affected.
Not all deployments of ClearCase use OpenSSL in a way that is affected by these vulnerabilities.
Your configuration is vulnerable if all of the following are true:
- You communicate with a server that uses ECDSA server certificates and
- You use client certificates with ECDSA and
- Your use of ClearCase includes any of these configurations:
- You use the base CC/CQ integration client on any platform, configured to use SSL to communicate with a ClearQuest server.
- You use the UCM/CQ integration on UNIX/Linux clients, configured to use SSL to communicate with a ClearQuest server.
Note: Windows clients using the UCM/CQ integration are not vulnerable.
- You use the Change Management Integrations for base CC with CQ or RTC, or for UCM with CQ or RTC on UNIX/Linux clients, configured to use SSL to communicate with a ClearQuest or RTC server.
Note: Windows clients using the CMI integration are not vulnerable.
- You use ratlperl, ccperl, or cqperl to run your own perl scripts, and those scripts use ECDSA client certificates to open an SSL connection to a server that uses ECDSA certificates.
- If your server uses other certificate types, you are not vulnerable.
- If you do not use client certificates, you are not vulnerable.
Apply an interim fix for your appropriate release of ClearCase.
These versions include OpenSSL 1.0.1g.
|Upgrade to Rational ClearCase Fix Pack 13 (126.96.36.199) for 7.1.2 plus Interim fix 1 (188.8.131.52.01)
Note: 184.108.40.206 inter-operates with all 7.1.1.x systems, and can be installed in the same way as 7.1.1.x fix packs.

Workarounds and Mitigations
You can avoid the issue as follows:
- Avoid using ECDSA certificates (client or server) until you apply the fixes.
- Disable your use of CC/CQ integrations with SSL using ECDSA until you apply the fixes.
- Avoid using ratlperl, cqperl, or ccperl for SSL operations with ECDSA until you apply the fixes.
