VULNERABILITY DETAILS

CVE ID: CVE-2012-2194

DESCRIPTION:

The IBM DB2 products listed below contain a security vulnerability that could
allow an authenticated user, without proper authority, to overwrite JAR files.

SQLJ.DB2_INSTALL_JAR is a built-in stored procedure used to install JAR files to be used by Java stored procedures. A malicious user could use the stored procedure to replace existing JAR files and achieve remote code execution.

To exploit the vulnerability, the user would need to have valid security credentials to connect to the database and execute the SQLJ.DB2_INSTALL_JAR stored procedure. By default, PUBLIC is granted EXECUTE privilege to SQLJ.DB2_INSTALL_JAR. To reduce the exposure, revoke the EXECUTE privilege from PUBLIC and only grant EXECUTE to users that have a need to install JAR files.

Workaround:
None known; apply fixes

Mitigation:
To exploit the vulnerability, the user would need to be able to connect to the database and call the stored procedure SQLJ.DB2_INSTALL_JAR. Revoking EXECUTE privilege from PUBLIC on the stored procedure would allow you to control who can call the stored procedure. Use the following SQL statement to revoke the privilege:

REVOKE EXECUTE ON SQLJ.DB2_INSTALL_JAR FROM PUBLIC

To obtain more information on the REVOKE routine privileges statement, see the following for DB2 V10.1. The statement syntax is the same for other DB2 releases.
