SECJ0369E: Authentication failed error in XML Document Management Server 7.0

Troubleshooting

Problem

A bad profileTemplate and missing APAR PK74054 will cause error SECJ0369E: Authentication failed when using LTPA. The exception is .

Symptom

After installing XDMS 7.0 you may see authentication errors such as those listed below.

SECJ0369E: Authentication failed when using LTPA. The exception is <null>.

XdmsWasConfig E com.ibm.xdms.common.impl.XdmsWasConfigManager getAdminSubject() GLSX0031E: Unable to authenticate with WebSphere server using given username and password
com.ibm.websphere.wim.exception.PasswordCheckFailedException: CWWIM4537E No principal is found from the 'superadmin' principal name.

Diagnosing The Problem

There are two issues that may cause the authentication of the superadmin user to fail.

  1. WebSphere Application Server APAR PK74054 is not installed.
  2. WebSphere Application Server profiles are created before WAS 7 FP3 or WAS 6.1 FP23 are installed. Profiles created prior to these fixpacks being installed are created with a bad profileTemplate.

Resolving The Problem

To resolve the issue, do the following.

  1. Install WAS APAR PK74054. This APAR is not available as a stand alone APAR. The APAR was removed due to a problem with the APAR. The APAR was fixed and made available in WAS 7 FP5 and WAS 6.1 FP25. Before down loading the fixpack make sure you verify the correct platform tab selected.
  2. To correct profiles created with a bad profileTemplate follow the temporary fix instructions for WAS APAR PK76879.
