IBM Support

Scanner support for legacy 32-bit Linux operating systems

Troubleshooting

Problem

Legacy Linux operating systems such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3,4 or SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 have limitted scanner support in latest LMT/BFI releases (since version 9.2.8).

Cause

CIT scanner no longer supports systems with libstdc++5 as their default C++ runtime.

Environment

Linux operating systems without libstdc++6 C++ runtime, running legacy BigFix agents (8.2, subset of 9.0).

Diagnosing The Problem

The scanner fails to install/upgrade on a legacy Linux operating system that has no libstdc++6 C++ runtime installed. This can happen when a legacy BigFix agent is running. One that uses libstdc++5 library.

Resolving The Problem

Since LMT and BFI does not support such legacy Linux systems anyway, the support we offer in this case is "as-is", customer can install last CIT package that is compatible with 32bit libstdc++5 library, which is CIT 2.8.0.3000.
