Saving and Restoring TCP/IP Configuration Files

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document discusses saving and restoring database files used by TCP/IP.

Resolving The Problem

Saving and Restoring TCP/IP Configuration Files

You should save and restore all TCP/IP configuration files as group. There are many logical files that are defined on the physical files. Saving just the physical files and then restoring them will cause problems. This is because the logical files used by different functions to access the data stored in the physical files will point to a renamed physical file if just a physical file is restored. The renamed physical file will be created by the restore database functions to maintain the indexes to the logical files.

Another reason to save and restore the configuration files as a group is that there are some dependencies between some of the files. Saving and restoring just a subset of the files could cause problems, especially when activating TCP/IP processing.

To save all TCP/IP files, on the operating system command line, type the following:

SAVOBJ OBJ(QATOC*) LIB(QUSRSYS) DEV(your-device) OBJTYPE(*FILE)

SAVOBJ OBJ(QATM*) LIB(QUSRSYS) DEV(your-device) OBJTYPE(*FILE)

Press the Enter key.

To restore all TCP/IP files, on the operating system command line, type the following commands:

RSTOBJ OBJ(QATOC*) SAVLIB(QUSRSYS) DEV(your-device) OBJTYPE(*FILE) MBROPT(*ALL) ALWOBJDIF(*ALL)

Press the Enter key.

RSTOBJ OBJ(QATM*) SAVLIB(QUSRSYS) DEV(your-device) OBJTYPE(*FILE) MBROPT(*ALL) ALWOBJDIF(*ALL)

Press the Enter key.

Note: The physical file data will be restored only for those physical files whose format level identifiers on the save media match the format level identifiers of the corresponding physical file on the system. If this value is not specified, file level ID and member level ID differences are not allowed. If an object already exists on the system with a different file level ID or member level ID than the saved object, the object is not restored.

Rename the file the following file:

QTOCHOSTS STMF under /QIBM/USERDATA/OS400/TCPIP.

CFGTCP option 10 and enter

QUSRSYS/QATOCHOST will be copied to create new QTOCHOSTS.
Then QUSRSYS/QATOCHOST should match CFGTCP option 10.

After this is done, do the following required cleanup:
1.On the operating system command line, type the following:

WRKOBJ OBJ(QUSRSYS/QATOC*)

Press the Enter key.
2.Delete all of the old logical files named QATOCL00xx (with the object description of 'Old name ....').
3.Delete all of the old physical files named QATOCx00xx (with the object description of 'Old name ....').
