Runtime Error: Invalid procedure call or argument, when using the New Requirements wizard or importing a document into RequisitePro

Problem

This technote identifies a possible resolution to the error which might occur when creating new requirements in an existing document using the New Requirements Wizard or when importing a document in IBM® Rational® RequisitePro®, "Runtime Error: Invalid procedure call or argument."

Symptom

The full error messages are as follows:

Runtime Error: Invalid procedure call or argument (RqWordServices.DocWrapper,1876,1)(RqWordServices. DocWrapper,1859,1)(RqWordServices. DocWrapper,622,1)

Cause

This error is caused by having the Microsoft® Word, Hidden format attribute is applied to some of the Requirement's Text which is being used in the New Requirement Wizard. This issue also might also occur when some of the Requirement's Text, in an existing document, has the Hidden format applied and is imported into RequisitePro.

Resolving The Problem

RequisitePro documents can contain Hidden text, but this format attribute cannot be applied to a Requirement's Text.

The last or next to last requirement RequisitePro was trying import or create is most likely the requirement containing the Hidden text.

  1. To view Hidden text in Microsoft Word, select Tools > Options, select the View tab and place a check in the Hidden text option
  2. Once the Hidden text option is checked click OK to close the Options dialog box.
  3. Locate the text that appears to be the problem and select Format > Font and clear the Hidden format attribute check box.

The error also appears if the Requirement tag is not properly marked as hidden. To make the Tag hidden, highlight the tag and go to Format > Font and check the Hidden box.
